It was a difficult period, but it did me good," declares Dimitrov, upon his return
Grigor Dimitrov will make his return to competition at the Rolex Paris Masters this Monday against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. The Bulgarian had not played since his withdrawal against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon last July 7th.
In an interview for Tennis Sweet Spot, he stated he prefers to take the positive from this bad experience: "It was a difficult period, but it did me good.
Taking a step back from tennis did me good. Three months have passed since then, but the summer was incredible. I finally went home for the summer, for the first time in 20 years, and I really enjoyed it.
There isn't much to say, other than I wasn't paying attention to anything, I was trying not to do too much. The goal was to disconnect, so it was ultimately a very important step.
After so many years of pushing myself, I let go for a while, but everything went well. It's normal to be injured, it's normal not to play every week, but I'm happy to be back.
The plan was to come back when I was ready. My team and the doctors agreed not to set a date.
I wasn't even sure I would be able to come, as we were trying to complete each stage of the rehabilitation, to do everything necessary for everything to go well.
Now, I'm back in training and I feel like I can compete with the others, not only physically, but also mentally.
