"It's tough, he has talent": Fonseca reacts to his defeat against Alcaraz in Miami
LoanDepot Park, accustomed to MLB (Baseball) feats, hosted a rare event: a tennis match.
Having already witnessed Amanda Anisimova's victory over Jessica Pegula just minutes earlier, the stadium erupted when Fonseca (19 years old) entered to face Carlos Alcaraz, the world number one and six-time Grand Slam champion, for the first time in his career.
"I was almost there, guys"
However, despite leveling the match at one set each, Fonseca fell in the super tie-break: 7-5, 2-6, 10-8. A result he commented on humorously during the on-court interview:
"Yes, I was really close, guys. It's tough, he has serious talent. It's a pleasure to be here and to play against Carlos."
Fonseca, the future rival everyone is waiting for?
Ranked 24th in the world after a sensational season, Fonseca is tipped as the next big challenger to the Alcaraz–Sinner duo.
And even though he still has room for improvement, there is no doubt that his future should be bright.
