Johnson on the Davis Cup: "We need to find a way to go back to the old format"
During their podcast Nothing Major Show, Sam Querrey, Jack Sock, John Isner and Steve Johnson discussed the Davis Cup and its current format. They lament the current state of this competition and what it has become.
Steve Johnson explains: "It's terrible. It's awful. The Davis Cup sucks. The format sucks. It's really tough for the guys. You know how much fun we used to have during those weeks.
When we arrived, we played a match, best of five sets, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I thought those were great weeks to spend with the team, which doesn't happen often.
Every competition is individual, that's why I loved those weeks. Now, everything is so fragmented.
The Davis Cup should have home matches. That's it. I firmly believe there should be home matches. Whether it's every two years, every three years, whatever, but we need to find a way to go back to the old format."
