Jovic discusses meeting his idol Djokovic: "It still feels weird to know him"
A global tennis sensation this year, Iva Jovic is the world's 35th-ranked player at 17 years old.
American Jovic won the first title of her career at the WTA 500 in Guadalajara in September against Emiliana Arango. A success that gave her even more visibility with the general public.
Defeated in the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 in Wuhan by Katerina Siniakova last week, Jovic discussed, in an interview with Clay, her idol Novak Djokovic.
"I don't need to get a selfie with him anymore! We got to know each other, we had a conversation. Now we say hello when we cross paths. It was informal, relaxed. He simply told me: 'If you have questions, I'm here for you.'
He's very nice, very friendly. I was a bit in shock, it still feels weird to know him. He follows me now, and of course, I've followed him my whole life. It's cool that we have a relationship now, I'll definitely take advantage of it and ask him for advice.
The first thing I'll ask him when I see him... Actually, I wrote it down, because I know that when the time comes to talk to him, I'll blank. I'll ask him how he reacts after a loss, what goes through his mind.
I also want to ask him about meditation, breathing techniques, things like that. That would be more about the mental aspect, we all know he's a master at that.
Sometimes he gets frustrated, but he's found the winning formula, the right balance. His answer will probably be that you have to work on it, it's never easy," Jovic stated in recent hours.
