Time for the last match of the day at the WTA 500 in Brisbane. Marta Kostyuk faced Mirra Andreeva for a spot in the semifinals. The Ukrainian had delivered a strong performance in the previous round, defeating world No. 3 Amanda Anisimova in straight sets.

On her side, the Russian had to work hard to overcome a resilient Linda Noskova, even saving two match points in the final set before pulling through.

The start of the match was balanced, with both players performing well on their serves. But Kostyuk broke first and even served for the set at 5-3. Andreeva then accelerated to catch up.

It was after a very tense tiebreak that the world No. 26 concluded on her third opportunity in 1 hour and 9 minutes. The world No. 9 responded by immediately breaking her opponent's serve in the second set.

Kostyuk Frustrates Andreeva and Joins Pegula in Brisbane Semifinals

Marta Kostyuk, tenacious and aggressive, quickly leveled the score. The 18-year-old player conceded the last four games of the match, sealing the outcome (7-6, 6-3 in 1 hour and 47 minutes).

After her win against Anisimova, Kostyuk thus claims the scalp of a second consecutive top 10 player, bringing her career total to 11 victories against the world's top ten.

For a spot in the final, the 23-year-old player will face Jessica Pegula, who earlier in the day defeated Liudmila Samsonova (6-3, 7-6). The American leads the head-to-head 4-1 against the Ukrainian.

If successful, Kostyuk would take down three top 10 players in a row, a feat she had already achieved at the WTA 500 in Stuttgart 2024 where she defeated Zheng Qinwen, Coco Gauff, and Marketa Vondrousova.

"You Never Know What's Happening on the Other Side of the Net"

"Mirra (Andreeva) hits very deep balls, she's capable of changing the ball speed. It was a more physical match in difficult conditions. It's very humid here. She serves very well. It was tough.

When you don't train with someone and you've never faced them, you prepare your tactics but you never know what's happening on the other side of the net. I felt I needed to start aggressively," Kostyuk assured after the match for WTA media.

Hello I'm new

I am surprised about relatively low attendance at Roland Garros which was the most popular slam 20+ years ago. I myself love it as well as really loving aus and us opens. I don't care about Wimbledon, sometimes maybe I can watch women's tennis. I hate Wimbledon's white dress code, I feel like I am watching junior tennis...I watched very few matches like Graf davenport final in 1999 the last time.....
