Kyrgios Settles Scores with Nadal: "He Takes a Minute and a Half to Serve, Nobody Says Anything!"
Always just as frank, Nick Kyrgios has once again discussed his matches with Rafael Nadal. "We don't like each other, but I respect him," he shared, before criticizing the refereeing leniency that, in his opinion, the Spaniard benefits from.
Absent from the courts since March, Nick Kyrgios never misses an opportunity to make some strong statements when he appears in the media.
In the Unscripted podcast by Josh Mansour released last weekend, the former world No. 13 obviously discussed his relationship with Rafael Nadal.
The two men have faced each other nine times on the tour (6 wins to 3 for Nadal) and their encounters have always been filled with tension.
"We don't like each other, but I respect him," first stated the 30-year-old player before addressing the Majorcan's time violations on serve: "Rafa is known for taking his time. There have been times when he takes a minute and a half to start his play, but nobody says anything.
But normally, as soon as the 25 seconds are exceeded, they announce 'time violation, loss of serve.' Every time, I thought to myself: 'Is there some leeway here, or can Rafa do whatever he wants?'"
