Medvedev reaches quarters with ease
Daniil Medvedev wasted no time on Monday.
Facing an unexpected Nuno Borges at this stage of the competition, the Russian had no trouble in defeating a Portuguese player who simply wasn't strong enough (6-0, 6-1, 6-3).
Perfectly on his game and tactically very clear, Medvedev made life difficult for Borges in all areas of the game.
Solid on serve (9 aces, 79% of points won on the first serve), incisive on the return and in the rallies (21 winners, 20 unforced errors, 8 successful breaks), the world number 5 never let an unsuccessful opponent breathe, and was more than ever at fault (19 winners, 52 unforced errors).
Having qualified for the quarter-finals, the 28-year-old will face an opponent of a completely different calibre in the next round, as he will take on the winner of the match between Sinner and Paul.
