Medvedev wants to make a fresh start after parting ways with Cervara: "It's an interesting new project in my career"
Daniil Medvedev, seeking confidence after another disappointment at the US Open, made the tough decision to part ways with his coach Gilles Cervara. With new coaches by his side, the Russian hopes to regain his best form.
Medvedev is searching for confidence. After his first-round defeat at the US Open against Benjamin Bonzi, the Russian announced he would part ways with Gilles Cervara, his French coach, with whom he had worked since 2017. Ranked 18th in the world, Medvedev hopes for a breakthrough, having lost his last three matches.
To replace Cervara, the 2021 US Open winner has chosen Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke. In a press conference before his entry into the ATP 250 tournament in Hangzhou in the round of 16 against Cilic or Basavareddy, the Russian discussed changes within his team.
"It wasn't an easy decision to make, but I'm happy to give them a try for the rest of the season, then I'll see how it goes for next year. I love their way of working.
I love what they say, it's an interesting new project in my career. I haven't played tennis for about two weeks after the US Open because I knew the next tournament wasn't right away.
Last week, I had a very good training week. I did some of my best training sessions this year, maybe even the best.
The goal would be to try and replicate that on the court because if I manage to do that, I can win tournaments or play good tennis, and that's what matters most to me," assured Medvedev for Punto de Break.
