Mensik talks about his progress: "I knew at the beginning that it would be difficult on the circuit".
Currently in Jeddah to compete in the Next Gen ATP Finals, 19-year-old Jakub Mensik has been one of the revelations of the season on the main circuit.
The Czech, a big server, is a dangerous player for many when he's on a good day.
For the ATP website, Mensik gave his views on his own progress and the influence of his parents.
"I have to say that before my career, when I started playing tennis, it was always my father and me.
Without my parents, I wouldn't be here today, they really supported me. My dad was my first coach and showed me what this sport is really all about.
He taught me how to play and made me fall in love with tennis. Now, with my current coach, I've made a lot of progress.
Whether it's my family, my team, my fitness trainer or everyone else, we're all in a very good frame of mind.
That's the key to being calm on court and playing your best tennis," he begins.
"It's not just about winning. My motto is: 'We don't lose'. I knew at the start that it would be difficult on the circuit.
Every day, every week, you lose because there can only be one winner, it's always like that.
It's hard, but it's part of the learning process. You have to work hard every day to give yourself the means to win titles one day."
