Merger between the ATP and WTA: Negotiations at a Standstill
While rumors were intensifying about a potential merger between the WTA and the ATP, these two bodies indicated to Front Office Sports, in a joint statement, that they were still in talks.
"The WTA and ATP have agreed to continue their discussions early next year regarding a possible commercial collaboration. There is no further information to share at this time."
Divergences and organizational issues as the main cause
However, Stacey Allaster, former CEO of the WTA, had indicated that an agreement had never been so close: "At this time, they have never been closer to merging their commercial assets.
They are on the verge of signing and forming a single commercial entity."
Still according to Front Office Sports, the main issues are due to revenue sharing, structural questions, and commercial rights.
