Metz tournament shut down, four minority shareholders involved
On Monday, the ATP unveiled its calendar for 2026, without the Moselle Open in Metz. This ATP 250 tournament, which began in 2003, will disappear from the calendar.
Already narrowly saved in 2016, it failed to save its skin this time. The ATP became the tournament's owner in 2024.
The tournament issued a press release announcing its demise, with causes evoked in a somewhat nebulous manner.
The release explains, "The loss of the Moselle Open date is exclusively the responsibility of the legal proceedings initiated by the four minority shareholders who represent 14% of the shares."
The latter's unjustified challenge to the ownership of certain shares in the company, through legal proceedings, has led the ATP Tour to take a stand."
Four minority shareholders had initiated legal proceedings in 2022, rejecting any form of compromise. A dispute that prevented decision-making and planning.
Nicolas Mahut regrets the end of the tournament: "It's a major blow for French players, who lose an opportunity to play and shine at home".
