Monfils confirms and joins Humbert in the third round

Gaël Monfils seems to have rediscovered his lightness and pleasure on the courts.

At the age of 38, the Frenchman is much closer to the end than the beginning, and admits that tennis is now his only priority.

That said, letting go seems to be doing him a world of good.

Having beaten Alcaraz in Cincinnati, Monfils has just notched up a second success in Shanghai.

An easy winner over Dzumhur in the first round (6-4, 6-3), he has just claimed the tournament's number 22 seed, Sebastian Baez.

After a very solid match, particularly on serve (15 aces) and return (5 successful breaks), he won after more than 2 hours of battle (6-3, 4-6, 6-4).

Very solid, he will meet Ugo Humbert in the third round. A promising match between compatriots.
