Mpetshi Perricard crowned Basel champion, a title and already a lot of promise!

For some time now, French tennis has been looking for a young player capable of taking up the torch left by the era of the Mousquetaires (Tsonga, Monfils, Gasquet, Simon).

Now it seems that Ugo Humbert, already 26, is no longer the only Frenchman to embody this hope.

At 21, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard is breathing a breath of fresh air and promise into French tennis.

Ranked 201st in the world in January, he will be knocking on the door of the Top 30 this Monday.

After three titles on the Challenger circuit at the start of the season (Nottingham, Morelos and Acapulco), the French prodigy has just claimed his second career ATP title in Basel.

Having already won the title in Lyon in May, he went on to claim the biggest title of his career on Sunday, defeating Ben Shelton in the final of the ATP 500 Basel (6-4, 7-6).

Aggressive and precise in the exchange (24 winners, 9 unforced errors), untouchable on serve (15 aces, 91% of points won on first serve, no break points conceded), he never wavered in his domination of the current world number 23.

At just 21 years of age, Mpetshi Perricard is turning everything upside down and already seems determined to overturn the existing hierarchy.

A player more than ever to watch.
