Stats - Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at ease against top 20 players
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard is off to a good start in 2025. After dominating Nick Kyrgios, the 21-year-old Frenchman defeated Frances Tiafoe, ranked 18th in the world, in two sets to reach the quarter-finals in Brisbane.
After being one of the revelations on the ATP circuit in 2024, the 2.03 m player confirmed that he is at ease against highly-ranked players.
Indeed, with this victory over the American, Mpetshi Perricard improved his very positive record against top 20 players.
Since the start of last season, the Frenchman has played seven matches against top-20 players, winning six of them.
In 2024, he dominated Alexander Bublik in Lyon (6-4, 7-5), Ben Shelton at Queen's (6-3, 7-6) and Felix Auger-Aliassime and Holger Rune in Basel (6-1, 7-6 for the Canadian and 7-6, 6-4 for the Dane).
Finally, before beating him in Brisbane on Thursday, Mpetshi Perricard had already beaten Tiafoe in the first round at Bercy (6-7, 7-6, 6-3).
His only defeat against a top-20 player over the period came in Beijing, where he lost outright to eventual tournament winner Carlos Alcaraz (6-4, 6-4).
While waiting to see if he can improve on this statistic this year, Mpetshi Perricard will be challenging Jakub Mensik for a place in the last four in Brisbane.
