Mpetshi Perricard on his service: "It's still room for improvement".
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard qualified for the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 Brisbane tournament, beating Frances Tiafoe 6-4, 7-6.
In the post-match press conference, he was asked about his serve and his progress. He says: "When I was young, I didn't serve that much.
I did a few sessions, but it wasn't the main focus.
I was tall, so movement was complicated, I was skinny. I didn't have that skill with my legs.
We knew it was going to be a good weapon in the future.
We tried adding new things, getting advice from some people. I think it's working now.
On the speed of my second serve, I worked a lot on it in 2023 with my coach. It was one of my objectives to do better, because it was at 170 km/h.
My coach asked me if I could push it to 10, 15 or 20 kilometers per hour more.
Now, I think my limit is 200. Maybe in two or three years' time, 220 will be my maximum. We'll see. It's still a way to go."
