Muguruza on Alcaraz: We couldn't dream of anything better to ensure Nadal's continuity

Former world number one Garbiñe Muguruza has discussed the meteoric rise of Carlos Alcaraz, who is currently at the top of the ATP rankings.

After an exceptional season, Alcaraz reclaimed the world number one spot following his victory in the US Open final against his rival Jannik Sinner. The 22-year-old Spaniard continues to build an impressive record for his age, having already won six Grand Slam titles, among other achievements.

Alcaraz will be aiming for his first title at the ATP Finals in Turin in the coming days. Former professional player Garbiñe Muguruza, who now serves as the tournament director for the WTA Finals in Riyadh, discussed Carlos Alcaraz's situation and believes he is the perfect player in Spain to try to make people forget about Rafael Nadal, who has been retired for a year.

"When someone like Rafa (Nadal) is gone, one of the best players in history, we were talking about a void. Who will fill this void, we said. It won't be possible to replace him, we won't see a new champion.

And suddenly, a young boy, resourceful, ambitious, with enormous talent, arrives. I don't know what planet he comes from... It's fantastic. We couldn't be better accustomed to a talent of this level in this country.

Now we have Carlos (Alcaraz), a very different reference, young, with a different, new style of play, who drives us all crazy and who, moreover, arrived at the right time. This Alcaraz storm, we couldn't dream of anything better to ensure Nadal's continuity," Muguruza stated to Mundo Deportivo.
