Navratilova on Anisimova: She reminds me of Lindsay Davenport

Martina Navratilova is full of praise for Amanda Anisimova, whom she does not hesitate to compare to the former champion Lindsay Davenport.

Just days before the start of the WTA Finals in Riyadh, where an impressive American contingent (Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova, Madison Keys, Jessica Pegula) will be competing, Navratilova's statement rekindles interest around a player who has weathered the storm to come back stronger this season.

"Oh my God! She has been through so much: the loss of her father and everything that followed. The expectations were high, almost similar to those for Mirra Andreeva and Coco Gauff. A lot was expected of her and she had to adapt. Sometimes, the pressure is too much if the results aren't there.

But recently, everything has been going very well for her (title in Beijing) and it's great to see, because she is such a nice person. She has a heavy ball strike and she makes me think of Lindsay Davenport.

That cruel defeat at Wimbledon must have stayed in the back of her mind, but she beat Iga in the quarter-finals of the US Open and played well in the final. It's tough to recover from such an event, but she did it."

For the record, Lindsay Davenport is a former American champion, world number 1, and a three-time Grand Slam winner: US Open (1998), Wimbledon (1999), and Australian Open (2000).
