The group stages of the Next Gen ATP Finals have just delivered their verdict. Earlier in the day, Alexander Blockx, already qualified for the semifinals, was joined by Nishesh Basavareddy.

For the evening session in Jeddah, suspense was on the menu in the blue group. After Rafael Jodar's convincing victory over Martin Landaluce (4-3, 4-1, 4-3), the group's outcome would be decided in the match between Learner Tien and Nicolai Budkov Kjaer.

To stay in contention, Jodar had to hope that Tien would not win in four sets.

A favorable scenario for Tien

Despite losing the first set in a tie-break, the American kept his composure to take control over the Norwegian in the next three sets. A victory with a score of 3-4, 4-1, 4-2, 4-2 allows him to reach the tournament semifinals for the second year in a row.

The semifinal matchups, to be played tomorrow, are now known: Tien will challenge his compatriot Basavareddy, while Blockx will face off against Budkov Kjaer.

A tennis player's income depends solely on his sporting results. In the event of injury, the daily life of those far from the Top 100 can become extremely complicated.

Since February 2022 and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Ukrainian sport has been heavily affected by human, structural and economic losses. Tennis has, of course, not been spared. While Ukrainian athletes have had to rethink their entire organization, an entire country, behind the scenes, has had to adapt and change its training conditions. This extends all the way to the highest level, where professional players have spoken out, trying as best they can to help their nation.

As federations struggle to reinvent themselves, private academies are capturing talent… but also families able to invest tens of thousands of euros a year. A system that is increasingly effective, but also increasingly unequal.

Born almost by accident in an Acapulco garden, padel has in fifty years become a global phenomenon that both fascinates and worries tennis. Its meteoric rise is already reshaping the landscape of racket sports.

Under the Majorcan sun, the Rafa Nadal Academy doesn't just train players: it forges destinies. Behind the walls of this tennis temple, young prodigies learn to walk in the footsteps of the Bull of Manacor.

As we move to the end of this month and also closing out the year I am wishing all of those following me a Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New Year.

Let's make that wish for all 2000 plus players hoping for 5 wins each day. Hoping ŵhen we open the results page to see all green, and no red. And especially NO CANCELED matches.

From me and my rotti JAZ, I bid you all good night, and see you in...

why did tennis tonic void predictions on the match between Chwalinska and Huergo at the Quito tournament? The match was played to completion and on time. If TT feels the match is one sided, and of course it was, then don't put it up for prediction. This is getting irritating.

The finals are here, and we scramble for the best finish. I've been chasing "King" all year and I was able to shrink the spread a little. Skelp is also closing the gap.

Seasons best to all the regulars in our league.

Will you all be back in the new year.?

Steffi Graf completed a Golden Slam (not just a career Grand Slam) when she was 19. She is the only person to accomplish that, winning the four majors plus Olympic gold the same calendar year.
