Next Gen ATP Finals: Defending champion Fonseca announces his withdrawal!
The Next Gen ATP Finals, a competition created in 2017 to promote the new generation of talents on the ATP tour, will be in its eighth edition this year.
A major withdrawal for the final edition in Jeddah
From December 17 to 21, the top eight players under 22 will gather in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). However, the tournament officially announced this Wednesday the withdrawal of Joao Fonseca, world number 28.
The Brazilian, who won the event last year when he was outside the top 100 in the world, exploded this season by winning two titles (Buenos Aires and Basel) and reaching the third round at Roland Garros and then Wimbledon.
Tien qualified but still uncertain?
So it is only logical that Fonseca, now crowned with a brand new status, has chosen to skip the event to fully focus on the 2026 season.
This could also be the case for Learner Tien, the 2024 runner-up. The American, who reached the round of 16 at the Australian Open, is officially qualified for Jeddah, but his participation, like that of Jakub Mensik, is far from confirmed.
