Nishikori Announces Withdrawal from US Open

The American summer has been cut short for Kei Nishikori. Defeated in his opening match in Cincinnati against Argentina's Ugo Carabelli (7-5, 6-3), the Japanese player will not continue on to the US Open (August 24 to September 7).

On his X account, he wanted to inform his fans of the situation:

"Hey fans, unfortunately, I won't be ready for the US Open just yet. I had an MRI on my back, and it's not 100% healed. I'll work hard to be back on the court soon. Thanks for the support."

This latest withdrawal concludes a nearly blank Grand Slam year for the 35-year-old player. Now ranked 88th, he has not participated in the American tournament since 2021 and his third-round loss to Djokovic.
