"Not to worry about the rules": Swiatek's latest remarks on the schedule
Following her swift victory in Beijing, Swiatek warned the WTA about a schedule she considers dangerous.
Already questioned on the subject two days ago in Beijing, Iga Swiatek once again shared her opinion after qualifying for the tournament's round of 16.
The world No. 2 benefited from Camila Osorio's retirement after a one-sided first set (6-0) and was questioned by journalists about her management of the end-of-season schedule:
"It's an interesting question because indeed, the season is long. The second half is when players feel the most fatigue. Unfortunately, the Asian tour is the toughest part because you know the season is ending soon but you still have to push through.
I don't know what my career will look like in a few years. I might have to make the decision not to participate in certain tournaments, even if they're mandatory. The WTA makes things difficult with these requirements.
I don't think the top players can manage it, like playing all six WTA 500 tournaments. It's impossible to fit into the schedule. We need to be smart, not worry about the rules, and prioritize our health.
The only thing I can do now, when I decide to participate in these tournaments, is to take care of my body and my recovery. I have a good team with me that helps me with that. I have enough experience to know what I need to do, so physically I'm fine.
But yes, there are many injuries. I think it's because the season is too long and too intense," she stated in comments transcribed by TheTennisLetter.
