"One of the Main Sources of Pressure and Hatred": Garcia Refused $270,000 from a Sports Betting Sponsor for Her Podcast
On her Instagram account, Caroline Garcia revealed that she turned down the sum of $270,000 to fund her podcast, Tennis Insider Club.
She explained this decision by criticizing the impact of sports betting on players' lives: "Today, we refused a $270,000 sponsorship offer from a betting company for our podcast.
That's a significant amount, especially for an independent sports show and for me, having just retired from professional tennis. But here's why we said no.
A Real Danger for Players
Over the past two years, in interviews with players, coaches, agents, and parents, one theme has consistently come up: betting has become one of the main sources of pressure, abuse, and hatred in modern sports.
Every player, from Top 10 stars to regular ITF players, has stories to tell: Private messages filled with insults after a match... People demanding refunds after losing a bet... Even death threats. Not because of the sport. But because of gambling."
