Panatta takes aim at Piqué: "Why doesn't he think about football?"
Adriano Panatta did not appreciate Gérard Piqué's recent statements.
In early March, the former Spanish professional footballer proposed new reforms to change tennis, which, according to him, risks losing fans if no major changes are made in the coming months.
The former FC Barcelona player, who is behind the Davis Cup reform, notably proposed eliminating double faults and allowing only one serve, as well as removing advantages to avoid lengthy games.
All of this aimed, among other things, to make the game more fluid. After Boris Becker, it was Panatta who reacted to Piqué's remarks.
"He ruined the Davis Cup because he invented a new format, and the international federation ended up turning against him.
It's as if today, a tennis player decided to buy the Football World Cup and wanted to organize a penalty shootout at the end of the first half.
Here, he did the same thing with the Davis Cup. One must be careful when wanting to talk about so many changes. Why doesn't Piqué think about football?" questioned Panatta, 74, for Tennis World Italia.
