Paul, defeated but not despondent: "We simply have to get back to training".

Paul, defeated but not despondent: We simply have to get back to training.

Tommy Paul has nothing to be ashamed of in his performance.

After a solid first week in New York, the American couldn't avoid defeat at the hands of Jannik Sinner in the Round of 16 (7-6, 7-6, 6-1).

Although he didn't miss out, having played the world number 1 on equal terms for just under 2h30, Paul finally exploded, suffering the unparalleled efficiency of his opponent.

Questioned in the press conference, the world number 14 was not overly critical, insisting on the need to bounce back as quickly as possible: "I'm not crestfallen. I feel it's just the sport we play every week.

We lose games like this all the time, so it's not like I mind.

I'm not going to suffer from post-traumatic syndrome or anything like that.

Obviously, I would have liked to have gotten the upper hand and capitalized on certain moments in the game, but you know, you've just got to get back to training and get ready for the next event."
