Petrova criticizes Medvedev's timing: "The change should have happened earlier"
Daniil Medvedev's 2025 season was marked by the end of his collaboration with Gilles Cervara. It was in September, shortly after an early exit at the US Open, that the former world No. 1 decided to make a fresh start.
A choice that seems to have paid off towards the end of the season, with Medvedev rediscovering the taste of victory with a title in Almaty, his first in over two years.
"He should have changed his team much earlier"
However, former player Nadia Petrova, interviewed by Championat, believes the Russian should have parted ways with Cervara much earlier:
"They had such a long history together. Daniil may not have wanted to rush things and rather waited for the end of that cycle. But he should have changed his team much earlier, at the first signs of failure. We saw at the end of the season that he began to get results with his new coaches."
