Qualified for the second round, Sinner assumes: "I'm not at 100% yet".
It's no great surprise, but it was still a matter of being certain: despite winning, Sinner has not yet fully recovered his physical condition.
Long rumored to be out of action in Paris, the world number 2 finally managed to line up. Facing Christopher Eubanks in the first round, he secured the essential points to win in 3 sets (6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in 2h09). Nevertheless, it's clear that he played with the handbrake on, conceding 10 break points. Indeed, his level of play seems far from his peak.
Asked about his physical state following his victory, the 22-year-old made no bones about it: "My team and I worked really hard to get on the court today. Without this incredible team, nothing would have been possible.
I'm not at 100% yet, but I'm going to try and build on that day by day. The goal is the second week. Thanks to the public for their support, it was great today for my first time under the Suzanne Lenglen court."
In the next round, Sinner will face one of the heroes of the Paris crowd: Richard Gasquet.
