On the latest episode of his podcast, Andy Roddick naturally returned to the tennis news of the moment: the announcement of Rafael Nadal's retirement.
The former world No. 1 was keen to point out that the Spanish champion should not simply be considered a clay-court player.
He declared: "The laziest way to think of Rafa is to say 'Oh, he's a clay-court player'.
Let's take clay out of the conversation, which is not often the case with Rafa.
Off clay, he's won as many Grand Slam titles as Andre Agassi and Jimmy Connors (8), more than John McEnroe (7).
They are absolute icons of our sport.
So don't try to equate him with a clay-court player.
Because even if he is the greatest clay-court player in history, he is much more than that."
