Rolex Paris Masters: Zverev Defeats Medvedev and Advances to Semifinals for Another Clash with Sinner

They know each other inside out, have been challenging each other for years… and always deliver electrifying battles. This Friday, Alexander Zverev got the better of Daniil Medvedev after a three-set thriller, securing his spot in the Paris semifinals.

The last quarterfinal match of the Rolex Paris Masters offered a classic from recent years on the tour: the 22nd encounter between Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev.

Considered, in their early days, as potential heirs to the Big 3 (alongside Tsitsipas), the two men have often delivered duels full of suspense and tension—and this one was no exception.

On the court of the Paris La Défense Arena, Medvedev started strong by winning the first set 6-2, before seeing Zverev come back into the match. The German raised his level to equalize at one set all, completely reigniting the contest.

The third set lived up to all its promises, paced by relentless baseline exchanges. Nervous on his serve, Zverev saved two match points at 5-4 before snatching the tie-break.

More solid in the decisive play, he took control from the start and relied on an excellent first serve (4 aces, 78% first serves in, 70% of points won behind it) to close out the match 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 in 2 hours and 29 minutes.

With this victory, Zverev ends a streak of five consecutive losses to Medvedev, whom he hadn't beaten since August 2023.

The defending champion in Paris will face Jannik Sinner tomorrow in the semifinals, just six days after their duel in the final of the ATP 500 in Vienna, narrowly won by the Italian (3-6, 6-3, 7-5).
