Aryna Sabalenka was defeated in the Indian Wells final by Mirra Andreeva, who seems well on her way to becoming one of the future stars of the women's circuit.

After this second final defeat in California, the world No. 1 chose to keep smiling during the trophy ceremony:

"I have a tumultuous relationship with this tournament. I'll just stack the trophies one on top of the other to pretend it's the winner's trophy, because they'll be the same size (laughs).
