Saville warns Rune about his rehabilitation: "He must be careful not to overdo it"
The race against time has already begun for Holger Rune. The Dane, world number 15, was seriously injured in the semifinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Stockholm against Ugo Humbert in October. The diagnosis was not long in coming, and the 22-year-old player is suffering from a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon. A terrible halt for Rune, who is expected to miss more than half of the 2026 season at a minimum.
Saville, who had Achilles tendon surgery, sends a message to Rune
However, Rune has decided not to waste any time. The player, who will be away from the courts for many months, has already resumed training and has already hit the ball several times while sitting on a chair, or while hopping on one foot. This is a very risky method according to Daria Saville.
The former world number 20, now 31 years old and ranked 164th in the world, underwent Achilles tendon surgery in 2021 due to chronic pain and also missed nine months of competition before returning to the top level. For Saville, Rune will need to arm himself with patience and not do anything reckless during his rehabilitation.
"It will take him between 9 months and a year before he can resume professional competition. It seems to me that he is giving his all in this initial phase of his recovery, but he must be careful not to overdo it. Rune is a champion and he is eager to get back on the court, but the road is still long and he must not rush, even if it is difficult," Saville wrote on her Instagram account.
