Serena retires at Wimbledon 1st round

Already with the right thigh strapped, she made her injury worse in the 5th game and had to give up.

Not interested in 'cry baby' on court. If you know you're not fully fit, please don't show up. Better forget playing competitive tennis cos you will not win any more championships. But if you insist on playing, get properly fit and in shape, then look for another coach. That your long time coach has outlived his usefulness for you. A new coach will help you in certain areas of your game. And note that the tennis you played in those days is quite different from what these young girls played now and you can't beat them to it

This is my favorite similar Serena Wimbledon moment:

https://youtu.be/kZeAQRhb66U

She claimed to have a "virus", but oddly not one other player caught it. Not even her sister who was holding her hand walking her to her chair during the match.
The symptoms I plainly saw were someone drunk or inebriated.
I like how quickly the media and WTA dismissed this without any hype or investigation.
Typical no accountability for Serena, just drama.
So glad she and her drama are out.

They only had enough wrap to make it halfway around her thigh, thus the retire. Shame.....next!

I didn't see any post match press conference from Stanley Williams.
I guess he's exempt again because of losing. Such a bad loser steroid Williams. Probably back on them, you watch. Next she'll have a pulmonary embolism. We all know why Williams got those. I would hardly call it a slip. Felt a bit theatrical to be honest.

At least he didn't explode and attack anyone.

I swear Williams would have done well in MMA. I hear they may be letting trans people join. That could be good news for the Williams brothers, another career option 🙄

Agree with many of you. She is an embarrassment to sports and tennis. Out of shape and looks awful and I swear, does not own a mirror. Always drama and excuses and good riddance. There is a reason so many people celebrate her failures and love when she loses. That should tell you enough and her on court antics and rudeness for years shows her true self, coupled with her press conferences and rarely giving credit to her opponents when she gets thumped. Show some class, apologize for your overall behavior and lack of respect to athletes and retire with some dignity while you can. So pathetic and countless examples, too many to list. And Stop playing the mother card, you are a terrible example for young women and mothers in general. Preach.

Such a shame. My TV died just as Fed was being interviewed and been trying to fix it so was not able to see what there was of this match. I feel so sorry for her...
