Shanghai: Medvedev Reaches Semifinals After 50th Win Against a Top 10 Player
Daniil Medvedev breathes a sigh of relief. By defeating Alex De Minaur (6-4, 6-4) in the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters 1000, the Russian reaches the 50th hard-court semifinal of his career.
But that's not all. This victory against the Australian also marks his 50th win against a top 10 player. This number now places him alone in second place among players born after 1990, behind a certain Alexander Zverev (56).
At 29 years old, Medvedev continues to improve his stats on a surface he knows very well. Only Federer, Djokovic, and Murray have done better in terms of hard-court semifinals in Masters 1000 since 2000.
For a spot in the final, he will face Arthur Rinderknech, one of the surprises of this tournament, who made waves by defeating Zverev, Lehecka, and then Auger-Aliassime.
