Ben Shelton is gradually returning to his best tennis.
Since Cincinnati, he's been playing quality tennis, but often lacks efficiency in important moments.
Frustrated by Zverev in Cincinnati, then by Tiafoe at the US Open and finally by Fils in Tokyo, Shelton is hoping to make a big impact in Shanghai this week.
Faced with the unpredictable Denis Shapovalov in his opening match, the American didn't fall into the trap, winning in two sets (6-3, 7-5).
Efficient on serve and aggressive in his play, Shelton is now through to the third round, where he could meet up again with last week's tormentor, Arthur Fils.
