Sonego annoyed by Rublev's behaviour in Metz: "He came on to the court with his suitcases".
Lorenzo Sonego reflected on his defeat by Andrey Rublev in Metz, who then withdrew due to an "abdominal injury".
The Russian had lined up in the draw at the last minute to take points away from the Race. However, Novak Djokovic's withdrawal from the ATP Finals was announced on the day of his first match.
The withdrawal meant that Rublev no longer had to play the tournament to earn his place at the Masters.
So, just after his victory over Sonego, he decided to withdraw from the tournament. A decision that the 53rd-ranked player in the world has not digested: "He didn't behave well. Some players go to tournaments to play them and get ahead.
Maybe there were some lucky losers waiting to take part. He took away my chance to continue in the tournament because he knew he wasn't going to play it.
It wasn't fair or respectful to me. He and his coach already knew they were leaving. He came onto the court with his suitcases. He didn't care about the tournament."
