"The Top 15 is much weaker than in my time": Dolgopolov frank about the ATP tour
Alexandr Dolgopolov, retired since 2021 and a brilliant but atypical figure on the tour, posted a message on X to give his point of view on the current tour.
"I barely watch tennis these days, but...", he begins, before unfolding an analysis that contradicts some nostalgic narratives.
- The best days of Sinner and Alcaraz are probably equivalent to those of the Big 3, but they are overall less solid than the big three,
- players ranked 3rd to 15th in the world are much weaker than in our time,
- players ranked 15th to 50th in the world are almost similar,
- players ranked 50th to 100th in the world are stronger than in our time.
In conclusion, Dolgopolov has reignited one of the most sensitive debates in modern tennis: is the level of the current tour higher, equal to, or lower than the golden era of the Big 3?
