"They are a huge source of inspiration for everyone," says Berrettini about Sinner and Musetti
Italy seems untouchable in the Davis Cup. Filippo Volandri's team concluded the 2025 season with a third consecutive triumph in the competition. Despite being without Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti, the Squadra Azzurra dominated Austria, Belgium, and Spain to add another title to their record. A key player in his country's victory, Matteo Berrettini reflected on the absence of Italy's two best players.
"Jannik (Sinner) and Lorenzo (Musetti) are always there, they have been close to us every day, they are a huge source of inspiration for everyone. We are a huge group, whether people are called up or not. We are taking tennis to an incredible level, both in terms of results, the love and affection we receive, and what children develop for tennis.
The most beautiful thing is to inspire someone to believe in a dream, so, since I was part of that, this motivates me," assured Berrettini, who also reflected on his individual performances in the three matches he played during the week in Bologna.
"The energy of the fans is really special"
"I am very happy with this victory and, beyond how I played and what I felt, the best part was feeling the warmth of the crowd and experiencing those emotions. Singing the anthem is always exciting, and I used that energy to overcome the most difficult moments, when I felt I had opportunities but couldn't take advantage of them.
If I have the chance and the merit to be there again next year, I will try again. The energy of the fans in the Davis Cup is really special, and it would be great to relive those atmospheres," Berrettini assured in recent hours for the media Tennis World Italia.
