Toni Nadal on Rafa: "I worked with him for so long because I was cheap"
Toni Nadal discussed the separation between Juan Carlos Ferrero and Carlos Alcaraz and compared it to the relationship he had for many years with his nephew, Rafa.
In comments reported by Punto de Break, he stated: "Juanki's demands improved certain aspects of Alcaraz's game, but in the end, it's the player who decides.
"I told Rafa to do what he wanted"
I don't know if it was the same with Juan Carlos, but when Rafa turned 18, I told him to do what he wanted, and that whether to leave or not was up to him. I helped him on the court; off the court, he made his own decisions.
No matter how good a coach is, you can't control someone, especially older individuals. It's like with a parent: when you stop supporting your child, you can give your opinion, but you can't impose it on them."
He then discussed the financial aspect, which might be a factor in the separation between Alcaraz and Ferrero: "I worked with Rafa for so long because it was very cheap for him, a favorable price.
Rafa used to say: 'Who else could I find at that price?'"
