Too many exhibitions? Rusedski's speculation on the split between Alcaraz and Ferrero
Greg Rusedski, former world number 4 in 1997, spoke to Tennis365 about the split between Carlos Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Ferrero. According to him, it could be related to the world number one's schedule choices, which have not always pleased his team.
Too many exhibitions?
He explained: "I am not surprised. I would not be surprised if there have been some disagreements about the schedule in recent weeks, because Carlos got injured at the ATP Tokyo tournament, then again at the ATP Finals, but he continued to play exhibitions.
If you watch the recent Netflix documentary, you can see that Carlos's team wants him to be ultra-professional to try to reach the level of the sport's greatest players like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.
Take the example of Jannik Sinner. He withdrew from the Davis Cup final and is not playing any exhibition matches. He is preparing for the new season. When Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic were at the top, you didn't see them playing many exhibition matches."
