Townsend parts ways with her coach John Williams after four years of collaboration
World No. 117 in singles and an excellent doubles player, Taylor Townsend is parting ways with her coach John Williams, with whom she had been working since 2021. The 29-year-old American has particularly shone in doubles, winning Wimbledon 2024 and the Australian Open 2025 alongside Katerina Siniakova thanks to her coach's advice.
With the Czech player, she also reached the final of the WTA Finals in 2024, and became the first mother to achieve the world No. 1 ranking in doubles.
A Round of 16 at the US Open this year for Townsend
In singles, Townsend has never played a final on the WTA Tour. Under Williams' guidance, however, she reached the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Toronto in 2024 and the round of 16 at the US Open in recent weeks.
During her run, she notably defeated Jelena Ostapenko and Mirra Andreeva before falling to Barbora Krejcikova after missing eight match points. The reasons for the end of the partnership between Townsend and Williams are not known, and the identity of the American's new coach is also unknown.
