Tsitsipas fires his father!
It's a small earthquake in the world of tennis.
Coached by his father from an early age, Stefanos Tsitsipas no longer seems to appreciate his father's methods, as he has just announced that he is no longer his coach.
This decision follows the Greek's latest outing. Beaten by Kei Nishikori in his Montreal opener (6-4, 6-4), the world number 11 had had a sharp disagreement with his father. The latter had changed the tension on his player's rackets and even insisted that he keep the same tension when 'Tsitsi' was complaining about it.
Convinced that this was the last straw, the 25-year-old decided to do without Apostolos Tsitsipas' services: "It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that my collaboration with my father as a coach has come to an end.
I prefer to keep my father in his role as a father, and only as a father. My father will continue to travel with me and will be there to support and help me off the pitch, as I have always wished.
I have entrusted my father with the role of coach for many years, and I consider our partnership a success. I don't know who will take his place and I'm not yet in a position to decide.
What I do know is that it's time to close this chapter and this phase and try to write a new one. We both agree on this and hope to concentrate first on our human side, then on the rest."
