Vekic brutally ends Schmiedlova's dreams of gold at the Paris Olympics

Donna Vekic showed great authority to qualify for the final of the Olympic Games on Thursday evening on the clay of Roland-Garros. The Croatian, ranked 21st in the world, put an end to the daydream of Slovakia's Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, ranked 67th in the world at the age of 29, who defeated Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova in the previous rounds.

Vekic won in just over an hour and two sets (6-4, 6-0), taking the last 7 games of the match. In Saturday's final, she will face China's Zheng Qinwen, world no. 7, who had managed to beat Iga Swiatek earlier in the afternoon. Swiatek, who Schmiedlova will face this Friday for the bronze medal.
