Video - The intense and tense tie-break between Fils and Rune at the 2024 ATP 500 Tokyo tournament

In the semifinals of last year's ATP 500 Tokyo tournament, Arthur Fils and Holger Rune faced off in a tight and unpredictable match. It took nearly 2 hours and 30 minutes for the two players to complete two sets (7-6, 7-6 in favor of the Frenchman). However, although this match was won by Arthur Fils in two tie-breaks, it could have taken a different turn in the first set.
Indeed, while Fils had earned a set point in the tie-break on the Dane's serve, the Frenchman—who finished his approach at the net with a volley—saw the line judge call his previous shot out.
The chair umpire then corrected the call, as the ball was in, and the point was replayed. Although Fils should have won the set on that point, things became more complicated afterward.
Rune came back to 6-6 before earning a set point of his own. Finally, a few points later, Fils was ultimately rewarded for his efforts and closed out the tie-break with a winning volley, which led Rune to smash his racket (see video below). Fils won the match before dominating Ugo Humbert in the final the next day, after saving a match point.
