Video - When Djokovic Delighted Against Michelsen in Shanghai
Currently competing at the Shanghai Masters 1000, Novak Djokovic has always enjoyed this Chinese tournament. A four-time champion of the event throughout his career, the Serbian is aiming for a fifth crown in Shanghai.
He came quite close last year, reaching the final before falling to Jannik Sinner. In his opening match last year, the former world number one had to overcome Alex Michelsen (7-6, 7-6).
In the tie-break of the second set, with the score tied at 2 points each, Djokovic produced an exceptional point on his serve.
While the young American player had attacked him early on the return, the Serbian turned the rally around, thanks in part to his always top-notch anticipation, and executed a winning shot with a subtle down-the-line drop shot even though he was facing away from the play (see video below).
At a time when he was seeking his 100th title, Djokovic would go on to eliminate Michelsen (after saving two set points in the second set), before overcoming Cobolli, Safiullin, Mensik, and Fritz, and ultimately falling to Sinner in the final. He would eventually join the 100-title club in Geneva last May after a hard-fought final against Hubert Hurkacz (5-7, 7-6, 7-6).
