Volandri on the Davis Cup: "I don't expect Sinner to change his mind"

Filippo Volandri, captain of the Italian team, responded to questions regarding Sinner's absence from the Davis Cup.
Italian tennis will have to manage without Jannik Sinner, the cornerstone of the azzurri squad, for the Davis Cup finals (November 18-23) in Bologna. The player indicated that he wishes to preserve himself with an eye toward returning to form in Australia. On this subject, Filippo Volandri, captain of the Italian team, shared his thoughts with La Gazzetta dello Sport:
"It's a painful decision, but it's neither the first nor the last time this will happen. It happens to all players, even the greatest. Zverev hasn't played in recent years, Federer and Nadal haven't either, at one time.
Sinner has spent a lot mentally and physically. So this week will be used to disconnect and reset for 2026. This national team commitment is an important engagement for everyone, but it must be managed in a balanced way since it takes place at the very end of the season.
Technically, the possibility to bring him in is there, but when a team at this level makes a decision like that, in terms of scheduling, it's difficult to change course midstream. So we remain available, but I don't expect him to change his mind."
