Wawrinka fascinates at 40: "It's always a thrill to be on the court"
In Rennes, the Swiss champion reminded everyone why his career remains inspiring, combining passion, performance, and gratitude towards the public despite being 40 years old.
Stan Wawrinka turned 40 this year but has no plans to retire just yet. The Swiss player remains competitive, as evidenced by his final appearance in Rennes this week, having won four matches without losing a set.
Still hovering around the top 100, the three-time Grand Slam winner reflected on his time in Brittany for Ouest-France:
"Despite the defeat, it's a positive week, a success. Emotionally, it was exceptional. I'm delighted I made the decision to come here. I'm trying to make the most of my career. Unfortunately, I'm getting older.
It's not ideal being 40, but it's always a thrill to be on the court thanks to the public, the emotions, and the support they give me. It's one of the reasons I keep fighting. I thank them."
