When asked about his tennis, Tiafoe doesn't mince words: "How do I feel? Like shit!"
Frances Tiafoe is having a rather difficult 2024 season. Ranked 16th in the world at the start of the season, the American is now ranked 26th. Despite a breakthrough in Houston, where he reached the final, Tiafoe is no longer able to impress. After three straight defeats in Madrid, Cagliari and Rome, the 26-year-old has decided to play the ATP 250 in Lyon this week.
Lacking confidence, he finally found his way back to winning ways. Playing against Jaume Munar (63rd), a veteran of the clay courts, he scored a convincing victory (7-6, 6-4 in 1h37). Questioned in the press conference following his victory, he admitted that he had had a very difficult start to the season. Quite frankly, he declared: "How do I feel? Like shit! (smiles) It's not easy. Over the last six months, I haven't played well. I've lost a lot of games. It builds character. I know what I'm capable of, and it'll come back."
