When the ATP plays accountant: Alcaraz and Sinner deprived of millions despite an exceptional season
The ATP season being over, it's time for players to rest, but also to receive bonus rewards based on their performances in certain tournaments.
Like the Masters 1000 Bonus Pool, which rewards players who performed best in this category of events with millions of dollars.
Alcaraz and Sinner penalized by the ATP
Unsurprisingly, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner lead the way in this ranking. The world No. 1 lifted the trophy in Monte-Carlo, Rome, and Cincinnati, while the Italian won the Paris Masters 1000 and also reached the final in Rome and Cincinnati.
Accomplishments that were supposed to allow Alcaraz to receive a nice check for $4.8 million, but he, just like Sinner, will be penalized by the ATP for his withdrawals in Toronto and Shanghai.
The Spaniard will indeed see his bonus cut in half, reduced to $2.4 million: each withdrawal from a Masters 1000 results in a 25% reduction of the total amount.
Sinner, on his side, will receive no bonus since he missed four Masters 1000 events (Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, and Madrid).
