Halys puts an end to Schwartzmann and Roland-Garros

Halys puts an end to Schwartzmann and Roland-Garros

After Dominic Thiem, it was Diego Schwartzman's turn to bid farewell to the French Open. In an absolutely crazy match, the Argentinian ended up losing in the second qualifying round (4-6, 6-4, 7-6 in 3h06). Faced with an impressive Quentin Halys, 'El Peque' never gave up, but was finally forced to concede, bored by the Frenchman's brutal strokes.

Yet the Argentine had made a perfect start. Covering the court to perfection, he quite logically took the lead (6-4). Far from giving up, Halys remained faithful to his initial game plan: hitting very hard to shorten the exchanges as much as possible. Buoyed by a boiling Suzanne Lenglen court, the 187th player in the world came back to level at one set apiece (4-6, 6-4). In a final, highly indecisive act, the Frenchman managed to snatch his ticket for the final qualifying round. With a final ace, he was able to savour one of the finest victories of his career (10-7 in the super tie-break).

Schwartzman, for his part, is forced to bid farewell to a tournament that has made him such a dream player. Twice a quarter-finalist and once a finalist, the Argentine bid an emotional farewell to his Parisian fans.

Once again, this early elimination raises questions. Like Dominic Thiem, didn't the 31-year-old deserve an invitation to the main draw? To bid farewell by playing one last time on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Surpassing 24 slams looks something kinda doable. Surpassing 14 RG seems something impossible. Really.
