Regardless, it's commonly done in sports and at least his parent/s are British, I find it very tenuous when the net needs casting further than that.

Add to that he's not done it to become an international standard athlete (I. E. Tenuously representing a country with a weaker sporting background so as to make their Intl team) I think we can give him a break... which I'm sure he'll be mighty relieved about!
