Roddick: 'Wimbledon is clearly Djokovic's best chance' for 25th Grand Slam
Andy Roddick believes conditions favor Novak Djokovic to dream of another Wimbledon title. The London grass could offer his best shot at rewriting history again.
With Wimbledon just days away (June 29 to July 12), can Novak Djokovic capture the 25th Grand Slam title of his career?
The question was addressed by Andy Roddick on his podcast "Served with Andy Roddick."
The former world No. 1 believes several factors are working in the Serb's favor.
"On grass, you can turn a tricky situation around in a single shot more than on any other surface"
"Novak was at a Formula 1 race last weekend. He was asked if he was eager to get back to Wimbledon and he replied: 'Yes, because I won't have to run as much as on clay.'
On grass, experience and the quality of the first shots allow you to make more of a difference than on other surfaces. You can shorten rallies and get out of complicated situations much more easily.
Honestly, I don't see any analyst claiming that Wimbledon is not his best chance to win another Grand Slam right now, especially with Carlos Alcaraz's absence."
"There are still question marks over Sinner"
According to the American, the seven-time tournament champion knows he has a real card to play on the All England Club courts.
"There are still some uncertainties around the Italian. For Novak, it's a real opportunity. And ultimately, I'm almost not disappointed that he didn't make it to the semifinals at Roland Garros.
I can assure you: he knows a great opportunity is presenting itself. He is fully aware of the current situation on the tour.
Of course, Sinner remains Sinner, but Novak must also be thinking: 'I can be the best player on grass in this tournament. Am I still at the peak of my career? Probably not. But I can absolutely believe I have a real chance to do it.'"
clay at 39 meant that long matches in a row as happened means he runs out of gas
on clay the points play for about twice as long as grass
Sinner could have an issue with the heat again - it has happened in the last 2 slams with him
